Inspiring Growth Mindset Quotes for Kids

The way we perceive setbacks and failure has a deep influence over our actual success. Having a growth mindset can help us develop a positive attitude even when we are facing challenges and gather the strength and motivation required to overcome them. Creating and expanding our growth mindset is best done early in life so this is definitely something you should want to instill in your kids whether you're a parent or a teacher. Below, we will discuss how you can help your children or students develop a strong and healthy growth mindset and I will also be sharing some amazing growth mindset quotes for kids and other goodies!

Understanding growth mindset

Growth mindset is believing that our mind and skills can improve over time and by seeing failures as experiments we can learn from them to achieve our goals rather than lose motivation and simply stop trying.

Cultivating this concept in our brains is just as important for grown-ups as it is for children and there are quite a few ways you can help kids develop the growth mindset that can help them succeed in life and overcome failures more easily.

How to help your kids develop a growth mindset

Children have young impressionable minds so influencing them in a positive manner early can be the key to their development over long-term. It' always a good idea to remind them of this truth so you will find some of my favorite growth mindset quotes for kids throughout this post.

"Smart is something you become, not something you are."

"If you never try, you'll never know."

"Whatever you do, do it well" - Walt Disney

"The person who does the work is the only one who learns."

Tackle challenges with a smart approach

Growth mindset can help us rewire our brains so that we can solve problems in the smartest easiest way. Just working hard is not a guaranteed path to success and that is something you should teach your kids.

Always emphasize their clever problem-solving skills rather than the fact they found a solution.

"It's okay to not know, but it's not okay to not try."

"It's not about being the best, it's about being better than you were yesterday."

"Don't give up until you are proud."

"Failing is just another word for growing".

"I can do hard things."

"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right." - Henry Ford

Help them understand the learning process

Learning is time-consuming, tiring, and sometimes even boring! When the results seem far away, kids can quickly lose motivation and that's something you should do your best to avoid.

Explain to them how the brain works during the learning process. Our brains create new connections as we learn new things so they are basically rewiring themselves to get better the next time we try to accomplish the same task.

Even if some tasks are more difficult to learn than others and the process seems slow, kids need to understand it is a steady process and they will get better by simply continuing to practice.

"The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting." - Walt Disney

"Strive for progress, not perfection."

"Do what you can with what you have, wherever you are." - Theodore Roosevelt

"I am not afraid of a challenge."

"I can train my brain to do it."

Become the positive role-model

How you face challenges can be a powerful example for your children/students and it's one of the most effective ways to help them develop a growth mindset.

When they seem to be having a hard-time solving a problem or learning something new try to point out their progress (as small as it might be) and explain to them it might take some time and effort to cultivate a skill to perfection.

This way, children will learn to have low expectations when attempting a difficult task for the first time and understand they will always have to put in some degree of effort to get better at it.

"My mistakes help me grow."

"I learn. What is your superpower?"

"I am not afraid of storms for I am learning to sail my ship." - Louisa May Alcott

"If you find a path with no obstacles it probably doesn't lead anywhere." - Frank A. Clark

"Success = learning + improving, not just winning."

Shift their focus to meaningful rewards

When we learn something new, we always expect a reward but there are more kinds than meet the eye. Say your child is invested in learning pottery and they manage to make some pretty pots. The skill itself is the greatest reward as it will allow them to create gorgeous vessels for as long as they want.

Focusing on the right reward is key to establishing a growth mindset but also serves as powerful motivation.

"If you quit once, it becomes a habit. Don't quit!" - Michael Jordan

"Today a reader, tomorrow a leader." - Margaret Fuller

"I believe in the power of the word 'yet'."

"I don't always get what I wish for, but do get what I work for!"

"Believe you can and you're halfway there." - Theodore Roosevelt

Reinforce self-esteem

One of the key aspects of reaching a growth mindset is having a good opinion about yourself and the earlier you teach this to your children, the better.

Negative thoughts and low self-esteem can quickly creep up when children are facing difficult tasks and you can help them shift their focus on their strengths as well as the valuable information they can learn from failures.

This will allow kids to concentrate on the future and improving their skills rather than the mistakes they made in the past. Self-love is the fastest way to long-term happiness and we all deserve it!

"It doesn't matter what others are doing, it matters what you are doing."

"I learn from my mistakes."

"There are no failures, just discoveries."

"I am a problem solver."
